Call-To-Order: 7:07 PM
-
President's Report
-
August minutes were approved.
-
The October band parents meeting will be moved up to
Monday, the 17th, to come ahead of the Expo. The meeting will be at 7 PM,
followed by an Expo meeting at 8 PM.
-
The alumni/parent band will play again with the pep band at the Austin game in
Decatur on October 14th.
-
Directors' Report
-
The results from the Columbia marching contest are posted on the web. The band
was greatly improved for their contest performance.
-
Prelims at the Lassiter marching competition will be between 2 and 6 PM. Our
performance should be within the final 90 minutes of prelims. Finals begin at
8:45 PM. The band will depart from GHS between 8 and 9 AM on the 8th.
The itinerary will have the address and directions to the AmeriSuites Galleria
where the band will stay.
-
Lassiter will use "caption" scoring where separate judges score different parts
of the show, compared to Columbia that uses "Olympic" scoring where 5 judges
all score the same thing, with the top and bottom scores thrown out.
-
The point of attending marching competitions is not to win, but to make
improvements and do the best we can at that point in time.
-
Photos of the band at Milton Frank didn't work well from the plane because of
flight restrictions, so the photo taken from the stands will be used in the
Expo program.
-
Lots of volunteers still needed for the Expo. Twelve bands are currently
registered, with a few late registrations expected.
-
Buses will be used for the Austin game. Students must sign up to indicate that
they're attending the Austin game. Jeans and the Emotions T-shirt will be the
uniform for Austin. The band will leave the school around 4 PM on the 14th.
Students must ride the bus and NOT drive their own cars.
-
CDs and DVDs from the Max Hammond concert are now available.
-
Individual band photos will be taken the week after the Expo during band class.
-
The spring trip will likely be to Myrtle Beach. A full set of activities is
still being planned.
-
Treasurers' Report
-
Copies of the budget were passed out for review, with no questions from
parents. The income listed in the budget for the Expo is from registrations,
and Expo expenses are increasing leading up to the day of the event.
-
First VP Committee Reports
-
Chaperones
Help has been good so far. The Marietta trip is covered, but a few chaperones
may still be needed for the Austin game.
-
Stadium
Still need more help with the seat covers, and more water is needed.
-
Uniforms
Still need help on Monday mornings.
-
Concerts
Still taking volunteers for future concerts.
-
Second VP Committee Reports
-
Pancake breakfast went well, with $1250 profit. A total of 337 people came
through the door. The next breakfast is scheduled for November 5th.
-
Spirit
More smilies have been made and are available for purchase.
-
Fruit Sales
Committee is in place, and sale dates are currently being set.
-
Ways & Means
Kent Eversmeyer has agreed to take on this position.
-
Scrip
Ornaments are still available. We received $550 from Kroger card sales, an
increase over the last payment received. Scrip will be available on Tuesday and
Thursday nights after marching rehearsal outside the band room.
-
Marching Exposition
-
Some bands will be delayed on the 22nd
because of SAT testing, so the Expo will start later in the afternoon, probably
around 1 PM.
-
Volunteers should use the Volunteer HQ on the web site to sign up for event day
shifts. Morning shifts that volunteers already signed up for are being shifted
to later in the day. Many volunteers are still needed, and everyone is
encouraged to take more than one shift if possible.
-
Ads for the program are just about complete, and far exceeded expectations. The
program should easily be paid for by ad sales. Kudos to Deanna Plotts for her
effort on this.
-
The directors are working with Off the Wall to design T-shirts for adult Expo
workers. All adults will wear these shirts, and student workers will wear their
Emotions T-shirts.
Adjournment: 7:57 PM
