President's Report
-
September minutes were presented. A motion to approve was given by Laura
Mollere, second by Teresa Montgomery. The minutes were approved.
-
T-shirts for Expo volunteers can be purchased for $10, or each volunteer can
sign out a shirt and return it after the event. The shirts will be reused at
next year's Expo.
-
Treasurers' Report
-
Still working hard to get Charms up-to-date, although some items are still not
posted. All accounts should be accurate by the end of October.
-
PayPal can now be used to pay band fees by credit card if desired. A small
transaction fee will be assessed to the person making the payment through
PayPal.
-
All questions about student accounts can be directed to Mary Setzer.
-
First VP Committee Reports
-
Trucks
Some additional help is needed for the remaining football games.
-
Stadium
We have enough water to get us through the rest of the football season, but may
need more for future events.
-
Concerts
Some ticket packets included with each family's paid band fees are still
unclaimed. Please remember to pick them up.
-
Second VP Committee Reports
-
Fruit
Sale dates are now set, and the grower reports that fruit is still in good
shape. We are encouraging pre-sales this year, and the directors have agreed to
wear the big orange suit for a day if the band pre-sells 150 cases or more.
Sign-up sheets are color-coded to indicate busy times, so only experienced
sellers should sign up for those times. A minimum of 2 adults is needed for
each shift. This is a good opportunity to get some credit for your student's
account, and volunteers are still needed.
-
Grants
Daniel Foundation package is almost complete, and we're building a database for
future submittals.
-
Publicity
An article appeared in the 10/17/2005 edition of the Huntsville Times including
a photo of the tubas, and we have spots on the radio as well. The Expo is being
promoted as well as the fruit sales and pancake breakfast.
-
Scrip
We received $695 from Publix and $470 from Kroger.
-
The next pancake breakfast is November 5th
from 7:00 to 9:30 AM. Trombone/baritones will be working this one.
-
More volunteers are needed to run concessions at the Expo.
-
Directors' Report
-
The judges' sheets from Marietta indicate that we were where we expected to be
at that point in time, performance-wise.
-
Milton Frank has been cleaned up and updated for the Expo.
-
All students must report to the Expo by 2 PM if not signed up for an earlier
shift. They will perform their exhibition show at 10:45 PM. All student
volunteer slots are filled except for trash detail, so leadership will be used
to fill in.
-
The Expo will have 12 bands performing for prelims, with 8 in finals. UAB will
do an exhibition show after prelims at 6:15 PM.
-
The US Army Brass Quintet will perform a free concert the night of November 5th,
but seating is limited. Tickets are available through the band as well as WLRH
and the Huntsville Times. The quintet will hold master classes Friday morning
for the students, and parents can attend if desired. The quintet will perform
at Austin High on the 3rd
if you can't make it to see them here.
-
The band will march in the Veterans Day Parade on Friday, November 11th
at 11:00 AM.
-
A $100 deposit is due from each student on November 18th for the
Myrtle Beach spring trip, with additional payments due in January, February,
and March. The final trip cost is still TBD. Gateway is doing our travel
arrangements and is looking at a beachside hotel with suites. Rooms can
accommodate up to 6 students, and the trip cost will vary depending on room
occupancy. The total will likely be around $500 and will include 2 meals/day
and various activities. The trip will be March 29th to April 2nd,
leaving on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. All 3 concert bands, both jazz
bands, and the percussion ensemble will perform.
-
Individual pictures will be taken the week after the Expo. The photo shown on
the web site will also be available for purchase.
-
The Fall Concert is November 10th
and will include all concert bands, both jazz bands, and possibly the
percussion ensemble.
-
Percussion are traveling to Ohio over the first weekend in November to compete
in an event that they have previously gone to only as observers.
Adjournment: 7:49 PM
