President's Report
-
A motion to approve October meeting minutes was given by Jim Krenn, second by
Jay Simcox. Minutes were approved.
-
Thanks to everyone who helped with the Expo. Some programs are still available
and can be obtained from Mr. Connell.
-
All green T-shirts from the Expo must be turned in, or a $10 per shirt charge
will be added to student's account.
-
Directors' Report
-
Avi Swain reported that the kids at Children's Hospital enjoyed the performance
given by the leadership students. A goal has been set to raise funds for
Children's Hospital as part of the holiday concert in December. A few of the
kids from Children's Hospital will participate in one of the songs during the
concert. The band will get the first $3000 from the concert revenue, with the
rest going to Children's Hospital.
-
Kathryn Dilworth, the Northeast Alabama Outreach Coordinator for Children's
Hospital, announced that Carrabba's will be open for a special lunch on
December 21st
from 11:00 to 2:00. Tickets for this lunch are on sale for $10, with $5 going
to the Children's Hospital fundraiser. Vendors will also be at the holiday
concert selling items to raise additional funds.
-
The holiday concert starts at 7:30 Friday, December 2nd, with
several ensembles playing in between the bands. The Christmas Parade will be
the following Saturday and will last between 1½ and 2 hours. The band will meet
around 11:00 in the parking lot on Clinton Avenue across from the post office.
The parade will end on Adams Street near Huntsville Middle School.
-
The Expo went well, with 12 bands performing. We have bigger plans for the next
Expo, which will be held on October 21, 2006. We can handle a maximum of 24-25
bands, and we hope to get more than 12 next time. The committees worked very
well, with only a few glitches. Some talk has surfaced about students being
left unattended after the Expo was over, but no one was ever without adult
supervision.
-
After-school rehearsals are very important, please avoid
scheduling appointments during that time.
-
There will be no rehearsals after the holiday concert except for Hilaritas.
Second semester auditions will be held the week after the concert, and will
also count for the 1st
semester exam.
-
The proofs are in for the individual band portraits, and must be turned in or
purchased for $15. Orders and proofs must be turned in by Friday, December 2nd.
-
A handout was given to students about the spring trip to Myrtle Beach. The band
will leave on Wednesday, March 29th around 8-9 PM and will drive all
night. We will use Spirit Coach this year, which has new equipment as of 2001
with pricing comparable to Capitol/Trailways. The trip cost includes
transportation, 3 nights in a beach front hotel (most rooms facing the water),
3 breakfasts, 3 dinners, festival participation, a T-shirt, baggage tag, Dixie
Stampede, the Ripley's complex, and a show at the Palace or Alabama Theater.
Other details are still being worked. Optional travel insurance is available
for $16/person. The first $100 deposit is due November 18th,
with $150 due in both January and February and the final amount in March.
-
Hilaritas setup will be Wednesday, December 7th, with dress
rehearsal on Thursday from 3:30-5:30, and performances Friday and Saturday
night at 7:30.
-
Treasurers' Report
-
Expo tasks took up a lot of time, and we still have outstanding income and
credits from vendors. As of now the band has around $7500 profit, which is very
good since making money on the very first competition is hard.
-
Student account statements are available through Mary Setzer.
-
We are still trying to decide whether or not to use PayPal since charge fees
will come back to the band, and the band cannot afford them.
-
First VP Committee Reports
-
Chaperones
No problems getting volunteers so far. A sign-up list is available for the
Myrtle Beach trip.
-
Uniforms
Thanks to everyone who helped during marching season. Now looking for help with
concert season fittings.
-
Concerts
Still need help for the holiday concert, and some people still have not claimed
their concert tickets.
-
Spirit
Items for Christmas need to be ordered now, see Avi Swain with any orders.
-
Second VP Committee Reports
-
Scrip
Cookbooks and ornaments are still available. Scrip makes good gifts, or use it
to buy gifts. Orders will be taken the night of the holiday concert.
-
Fruit
First sale on the weekend of the holiday concert, pre-sales can be picked up
Thursday night before the main sale. Increased fuel costs prevent us from
sending unsold fruit back, so we ordered conservatively.
-
Grants
We have one new grant to review.
Adjournment: 7:57 PM
