President's Report
-
A motion to approve November meeting minutes was given by Rick Cornelius,
second by Jim Krenn. Minutes were approved.
-
Several Expo T-shirts are still out and need to be turned in to avoid being
charged $10 for each.
-
Directors' Report
-
Schedule for Sym Camp has been passed out to students. Camp will begin after
school Thursday, February 2nd. Dinner Thursday night will be
catered, and Friday night will be a pot luck dinner for all students and their
families. A recital featuring clinicians and students will be held Friday night
after the pot luck dinner. parents can meet with clinicians Saturday morning
between 9:00 and 10:00 AM, and the bands will hold an informal concert after
camp Saturday afternoon starting around 2 PM. Student attendance at Sym
Camp is mandatory.
-
All-State tryouts will be held at Sparkman High School on Friday and Saturday,
January 27th and 28th. Tryouts for high school
All-State will be Friday night, and Saturday for Jr. High All-State.
-
Pre-District concerts will be held on Monday and Tuesday, February 6th
and 7th
for all GHS bands and middle school bands.
-
District will be held at GHS on February 15th through the 17th
beginning around 11 AM and finishing no later than 6 PM each day. Volunteers
are needed for 2-hour shifts to help run the event, along with student help.
-
Winter Guard is starting this year including 12 girls from GHS and 1 from
Hartselle. They will be performing in various events.
-
"A" Jazz will record their entry for the Duke Ellington Festival on Sunday
evening, January 29th, and preview it Monday. If necessary, they may
hold another recording session Monday night. We should know some time in March
if we are accepted to the festival. If so, a trip to New York will occur right
after graduation, and a clinician will come to GHS just before the trip to work
with the band.
-
Treasurers' Report
-
Current budget report was passed out. Negative numbers represent money in hand
that will be offset by upcoming expenses.
-
We received $846 from Hilaritas.
-
Fundraisers are vital to our budget, and band fees will go up if we don't
have enough participation in fundraisers to make them successful.
Even families who have paid the full $500 fee in cash are needed to help the
other fundraisers succeed and keep band fees from increasing.
-
Current figures show around a $6000 profit from the Expo. Some money was
invested this year that reduced the overall profit, so income should improve
for future Expos. Our results were very good for the first year of holding the
event.
-
Remember that $100 fees were due in December, and spring trip payments are due
at the beginning of January and February, with final payment in March. Spring
instrument rentals are also due.
-
First & Second VP Committee Reports
-
Fruit
Grower said we needed to order more fruit than originally planned, so we ended
up with 2 more pallets of oranges and 1 more pallet of grapefruit. We had a 2nd
sale site at GHS on Saturday that was very successful. We sold all but 5 cases
of oranges, but still have 40 cases of grapefruit. The next sale is February 10th-11th
and we'll have the site at GHS again along with the one at Advance Auto. More
volunteers are needed for fruit sales.
-
Concerts
Taking sign-ups for District for helping in the lobby beginning around 10 AM.
-
Hospitality
Help needed for Sym Camp dinners, and food is needed for clinicians.
-
Uniforms

January newsletter.
-
Banquet
Please submit photos ASAP instead of waiting until just before the banquet.
Current photos of seniors are needed along with one from early childhood.
Photos will be collected starting at the February meeting.
-

parents.
-
Scrip
Sales are good, no backorders at the moment, and some new vendors have been
added.
-

We missed the filing deadline for the Daniel Foundation, so we will resubmit
for next year.
