Pillows for Patriots
Hopefully by now you know that for Christmas we are trying to send boxes full of our comfy, soft neckroll pillows to our military men and women serving overseas in very inhospitable environments. The band will make NO money on this, but we WILL be doing a GREAT service to our friends and neighbors in the military, and we will get rid of the pillows! All we need to do is cover our costs. A large box of 40 pillows will cost $260 to ship overseas. That includes our cost on the pillows, boxes and shipping. That’s where you come in! FIRST!Approach your boss/manager/person with check-writing authority. ASK FOR SPONSORSHIP! One box, two boxes, ten boxes. Please stress that this is NOT a donation to support Grissom or its band! Many companies don't want to be seen as supporting one school over another in town. Stress that we are merely the workers. The money they're spending is for our soldiers, not the school or band kids. We make NOTHING on this! Supporting organizations can supply us with a letter from the CEO, advertising, notes of support; we'll put anything (appropriate) that they want in the box. The soldiers will KNOW who their benefactor is! If you work for any business with a connection to the military, this should be an easy sell. OR… Get together with friends, neighbors, family members, co-workers, church family, bunco group, etc. and sponsor a box or two yourself! What a great way to begin Christmastime charitable giving! ALSO… Reach out to all your military contacts! We need the names and APOs of soldiers to whom we can mail the packages. Everyone loves this idea. But it won’t happen unless we each say, “I will…” rather than “Someone should…” Print out the Pillows For Patriots flyer. Contact Kathy Francica for more details. Showing Their Appreciation!
From LTC Gregory Haywood: "The soldiers from the first group were from the 101st Airborne Division out of FT. Campbell, KY. Several were from the state of Alabama! They really enjoyed and wanted to let the kids know how much the pillows meant. The area behind them is their sleep and living area before they go out on mission. 18-30 year olds..."
"The second group are the Acquisition people. We bring in new equipment and technology to help the soldiers survive on the battlefield. As you can tell we are the older group!"
